We’re merging with Afternic and GoDaddy. As a buyer from Dan.com, you may have some questions. We’ve answered the most common questions below, and if you need more support, our team is ready to help you.
As a buyer with an active Lease to Own transaction in place, we emailed you with some choices on how you want your Lease to Own transaction to proceed.
With Dan.com merging with GoDaddy, we’re moving Lease to Own transactions to GoDaddy, but we’re giving you time to decide if you want to move.
- Migrate to GoDaddy: select this option and we’ll migrate your Lease to Own transaction to GoDaddy. This won’t be an immediate switch, and we’ll tell you when that happens.
- Purchase the domain name: instead of moving the Lease to Own transaction to GoDaddy, you can purchase the domain name outright, converting the remaining monthly payments into one lump sum. That total is available through your dashboard.
- Cancel the Lease to Own contract: in this case, the domain name will be returned to the seller at the end of the next monthly term.
How do I choose an option?
If you’re a Lease to Own buyer, you’ll see a banner in your Dan.com buyer control panel. From here, you can select one of the three options listed above.
What happens if I migrate my transaction to GoDaddy?
Once your November installment is paid, we will migrate you the following week. Your Lease to Own contract and domain name will be transferred to GoDaddy.
Once this has been completed, you’ll receive an email from Dan.com with more information on your new GoDaddy account. From there, you’ll be able to log in, manage your Lease to Own, and update your payment information to ensure you don’t miss a payment through GoDaddy.
After migration, your Lease to Own transaction will be treated as new by GoDaddy. You'll notice that your months completed resets to zero, while your Lease to Own term reduces to account for the payments made at Dan.com. For example, a transaction that completed 10 of 20 monthly installments at Dan.com will display as 0 of 10 at GoDaddy to indicate the number of monthly payments left.
Between now and your November installment date, you’ll be able to turn your Lease to Own into a domain purchase.
Select this option through your buyer control panel, and pay off all remaining installments. Once we receive the funds, the domain name will be yours to transfer to your own registrar account.
Cancelling your Lease to Own transaction means that your domain name will be returned to the seller at the end of the month. To avoid this, we recommend migrating to GoDaddy, or purchasing the domain name.
You’re able to choose one of the three options above after September 18th through your buyer control panel. It's important to remember that your transaction will be cancelled if we do not receive the November installment payment on time.
If you don’t choose an option, and you continue to make payments, your domain name and Lease to Own contract will be transferred to GoDaddy on or after your November payment due date.
On or after November 4th, we’ll begin the migration of your contract and domain name to GoDaddy. You’ll be given a new GoDaddy account to manage the domain name and future payments.
We’ll send an email to you with more information on your new account. Click on the link in the email to access the Welcome experience; you will need to complete the Welcome experience before you can access your account.
If you have any issues completing the steps, please contact GoDaddy.
Once you have completed the steps, you can login next time via GoDaddy without needing to use the link in the email.
After signing in to your GoDaddy account for the first time, head to your account settings page to create your payment profile. GoDaddy will use this to bill you for future months.
Yes. Your payment date will be the same at GoDaddy. To make sure that your payments continue unaffected, create a payment profile by following GoDaddy’s guide.

We recommend wrapping up negotiations as quickly as possible, ideally by coming to an agreement with the domain’s seller.
We’ll need to receive your payment by October 15th, otherwise, negotiations will be cancelled. If you need help closing a deal, reach out to our support team.
After agreeing to terms with the seller, we need to receive your payment for a domain purchase by October 15th at the latest to make sure that we can process your transaction.
We want to make sure that you can complete your purchase. But if for any reason we don’t receive your payment before October 15th, we’ll need to cancel the transaction. Our support team is ready to help you at any time if you have further questions.
Downloading your old Lease to Own invoices is simple. Head to the Buyer Control Panel, where you manage your Lease to Own transaction.
From there, head to the payment tab in the buyer control panel to download your Lease to Own invoices.
For Lease to Own transactions migrating to GoDaddy, you’ll download your transaction documents through GoDaddy after each monthly payment.
